FBW Group has completed the creation of an oil field services base camp in western Uganda.

A team from FBW, whose regional head office is in the Ugandan capital Kampala, oversaw the design and delivery of the US$10m industrial facility.

The project, for a global technology company operating in the oilfield services sector, took more than two years from start to completion.

The newly built base includes a range of workshops, laboratories, offices, storage areas and warehousing.

It has been developed to international standards under a design and build contract undertaken by a joint-venture consortium of international and Uganda contractors.

FBW, which also has offices in Rwanda and Kenya, provided a wide range of services, including project management, architecture, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and public health (MEP) engineering, along with cost management through its sub-consultants Mace-YMR.

FBW’s client is now delivering oil field engineering services from the field base to a Fortune 100 global energy giant carrying out operations in the Buliisa region.

Paul Moores, FBW Group managing director, said: “We have worked closely in partnership with a world-leading company in its sector to deliver a field base that meets all its support service requirements in Uganda. It was a true team effort.

“It was also a complex project that greatly benefitted from our multi-disciplinary approach as we worked to create specialist areas within the base for switch gear and pressure testing as well as radioactive and temperature-controlled storage.

“We were involved from the very start of the project as client agent, providing pre-contract design services to establish the employer’s requirements, and then design oversight, right through to post-contract project management, contract administration and technical oversight services.

“The fact we can offer so many services and provide such a wide range of expertise as a Ugandan registered company was a major advantage for our client as the development progressed from the design stage into construction. Our project management skills also proved invaluable to the project.”

FBW is active in a wide range of energy sector work, including projects in the field of renewable energy.
